I did it! Information technology'due south been over a year, merely I finally finished this book! Some of the information was quite useful, specially if you want to sympathize how the brain works under stress, simply other things were a fleck obvious (meditating helps yous relax? Actually?). My principal problem with this book is that, more than than helping yous deal with stress, it gives you some guidelines to alive a fulfilling, meaningful life. And while that'south bang-up, really, and I'm sure that if you find meaning in what you do you're not as stressed, I was hoping for something more specific. I wanted to know what to do when y'all wake up and all you tin think of is the thousand things that you're supposed to do over the next sixteen hours, or when you're panicking right earlier an important exam or interview.

Overall I'd say it'southward a expert book, if you're looking for a guide to leading a happy, meaningful life. If you're dealing with some serious feet issues, though, y'all'd amend become yourself a different book.

I'm non someone people typically call back about as a high-stressed person. But I'thou also good at hiding my stress. And while I have adept years in regards to stress management, I've had bad years, with panic and anxiety and other side-effects.

What I dearest about this volume is the entire first department is about the science of how the encephalon works, and this scientific basis in plough informs the remainder of the book. What I learned in reading this book is that some of my automatic impulses to endeavor to gear up myself actually do the contrary. For instance, I went through a period of time where to try to make myself happier, every day in my journal I wrote things I was looking forward to. But as it explains in this book, looking incessantly to the hereafter and the by can really make information technology harder to exist happy, if we're non truly experiencing and finding joy in the daily moments.

I actually liked how the author took subjects like Gratitude and Pity, showed their scientific base, and and then gave applied tools for applying and increasing them in your life.

This is a volume I volition exist referring back to, and would recommend to anyone who struggles with stress, feet, or low.

I have always struggled managing stress and I take a knack creating too much to do for myself. I capeesh that this book doesn't teach you how to prioritize your schedule or "how to say no" to people asking for your help/time. I've heard that and tried that concept a meg times and it frankly only doesn't work for me considering I e'er have a plethora of important things to do and I would never turn away anyone asking for my help - it'south just how I am.

I appreciated that instead this volume focuses on gratitude and giving cheers for what you accept (even if it'due south non much - anybody has SOMETHING to exist thankful for). I have found that every bit I expect for more things to be thankful about in my life, the stressful things just kind of cook away and get unimportant and it's piece of cake for me to postpone them to a different time when I have that perspective. I accept meditated and prayed for opportunities for gratitude to be placed in my heed when I am feeling stressed or overwhelmed and as I have given my best attempt, I have found that it has not been hard to observe blessings and to wish others' well.

So, I did find the book to be a little wordy and didn't end up finishing it all the fashion because information technology went on and on and on about the same precepts over and over. But, I do feel like it was a worthwhile and helpful book. It could accept been shorter and nonetheless covered the important points.

I was turned on to Amit Sood by a friend posting a link to his TED talk (cheers, Amanda!). I retrieve everyone would benefit from taking the short 18 minutes to watch this talk, "Happy Brain: How to Overcome Our Neural Predispositions to Suffering."

If you watch it and information technology doesn't speak to you where you are right now, that'southward OK; you lot merely lost a few minutes that y'all probably would have wasted anyway scrolling mindlessly through social media. :)
